In Carlton, Nottingham (NG4), a growing family with two children wanted a home that matched how they actually lived — bright, connected to the garden, somewhere every morning felt good to wake up in. So we designed one around them.

The challenge
A family ready for a home that matched their life
With two children and a full family life, the house needed more than extra square footage. It needed rooms that gave everyone space to be together, and moments of calm — a good view out, natural light, somewhere that felt genuinely good to be in first thing in the morning.
They wanted a home they were proud of, not just one that fit — somewhere that felt considered, warm and well-designed rather than a bolt-on extension that looked like everyone else's.
And they wanted to see it before committing to it — to know the finished space would feel right, not just look right on a drawing.
Our approach
Designed around how this family lives and wakes up
This was a Made-for-You Design project, so we started with how the family actually uses their home — where the children play, how the family gathers, and what the view and light would feel like at the start of the day.
The scheme opens a first-floor space out onto a balcony overlooking the garden, so mornings start with a proper outlook rather than a wall, alongside a bright, glazed extension at ground level that connects the everyday living space straight out to the garden.
We visualised the design in detail so the family could see and feel it before a single wall came down, and we agreed the fee up front so there was no ambiguity about cost while the scheme came together.

The outcome
A home that finally reflects how they live
The result is a light-filled home with a proper connection to the garden — a first-floor balcony and living space that makes the most of the view, and a ground-floor extension that brings the outside in.
It isn't a generic extension. It's a home shaped around this family's life together, and one they're genuinely proud to wake up in.
