The situation before
A couple with a third child on the way, in a well-loved semi in a Chester suburb close to a conservation area.
What triggered it
“We've outgrown it. But we didn't want a boxy extension that ruined the look of the house.”
How we challenged the brief
We persuaded them to set the extension back slightly from the front line — it cost a little floor space but kept the house in proportion and made the planning officer's job easy.
The design solution
A two-storey side extension adding a downstairs family room and an upstairs double bedroom, with brick and detailing matched carefully to the original.

A four-bedroom family home with a proper kitchen-diner, approved first time, and a façade that looks like it was always meant to be there.
